In The lesson today Nigel McQuoid stated:
"I have to say where I am getting it from. I think the Bible says clearly that homosexual activity is against God's design. I would indicate that to young folk." - Nigel Mcquoid"
He has also made similar statements elsewhere. The following statement is my reply to him.
Anyone who has ever spent any time in a courtroom listening to lawyers presenting detailed legal arguments will soon realise just how convoluted & complex the law can be. A similar situation exists in Parliament where those laws are ultimately made. Changes to ours laws are only made after much debate that takes into account relevant facts & information. It is often based on advice from experts in different fields, building on previous laws.
No one in this country these days makes or enforces law by simply holding up a Bible (or other religious text) & stating, “The good book says we must do this”. There are however countries where they do though – they are called theocracies & are amongst some of the most awful places in the world to live. For example there is Iran. The last time I saw a homosexual there, he was hanging from a lamp post.
Of course, if McQuoid & his merry little gang of young earth creationists want to forgo the luxury of hundreds of years of legal & scientific advancement for a biblical quick fix, then that is their problem. However, that does not give them the right to spread their diseased beliefs into our society by attacking the impressionable minds of young children. Other people’s children, I might add; people who could be atheists, agnostics or simply indifferent to religion. All are forced to endure their children’s exposure to McQuoids religious extremism. Are these people considered to be second class citizens or something?
If I was you McQuoid, I would crawl back into the playpen with the little kids who know no better – because in the real world of adults, your arguments just sound pathetic.
