I want to see young people who are as committed to the cause of Jesus Christ as the young people are to the cause of Islam. I want to see them as radically laying down their lives for the gospel as they are over in Pakistan and Israel and Palestine and all those different places... Excuse me, but we have the truth! - Pastor Becky Fischer. Surviving 'Jesus Camp'
"Why five stars? Because I WANT people to see this film. I WANT people to realize what is going on in this country, under their very noses. To see that our most innocent and vulnerable segments of our population are being manipulated and used for the purposes of a select group of people who believe they alone possess the "truth".
How the filmakers could just quietly stand by and film this documentary without becoming upset by it is beyond my understanding.
This is the scariest film I have ever seen. Children who should be out playing and having fun are being brainwashed into becoming "warriors for Christ". It is wrong on so many levels. Taking every child's dream of being a super hero and twisting it into religious fanaticism-have we learned nothing from the past?" - Removed Amazon film review.
"Let's rack up the Freddy Krueger moments:
The kids are forced to watch: Creation Adventure Team, which is a Jurassic Park take-off that suggest the world is 6000 years old.
The kids mouths are duct taped with the word "Life" to protest abortion.
Harry Potter, according to the movie is a Warlock which will send you to the pits of hell for watching him.
Children are sent away to "a Jesus camp" of sinful glutenous woman who makes them smash coffee cup to bring a christian government into power while the kids wear camouflage clothing and makeup.
Ted Haggard still looks gay, even though (get this) no one knew it then.
Jesus's "breath of life" is represented by a balloon, of which when we sin, the lady makes the balloon squeal by twisting the nipple of the balloon. (Yes I said Jesus and nipple in the same sentence.)
The Kid actually had a book called the "science of Creationism"
I'm sure they're more, but I'm typing this under my covers because I'm so damn scared the bible under my bed is going to eat me" - Dead link from http://greensboring.com
In case you are wondering what the UK would look like if creationism was really to take hold here, you only have to look at the situation unfolding in the United States. As a nation, they may well be more religious than the UK, but they are also supposed to be one of the world's more technically advanced as well. If Darwin, the Enlightenment & an increasingly battered wall between church & state doesn't seem to be able to save them from the nutters, then perhaps we shouldn't be so smug about our own situation.
Jesus Camp is a 2006 documentary directed by Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing about a Pentecostal summer camp for children who spend their summers learning and practicing their "prophetic gifts" and being taught that they can "take back America for Christ."[1]. According to the distributor, it "doesn't come with any prepackaged point of view" and tries to be "an honest and impartial depiction of one faction of the evangelical Christian community”. More
"Raise your hand if you think that God can do anything!"
Pastor Becky Fischer throws her arm into the air as an example while darting her eyes back and forth over the children in the audience. She yells in a fake high-pitched voice like a sleazy, overly animated kid's show host and waits for them to imitate her answer. In one aisle a mother lifts the arm of her disinterested son, no more than 8 years old.
That, in a nutshell, is the whole problem. More
Remember, people like those shown in the documentary have managed to ingratiate themselves into the highest echelons of American government & society (For example see, Home-schooling special: Preach your children well). They don't call the Republican Party, Gods own Party for nothing you know. You can laugh, but this is history in the making.
