Dover The recent dispute in Dover, Pennsylvania has created a great deal of interest. Under the pretext of teaching intelligent design (ID), members of the Dover district school board attempted to inject creationist tenets into the school science curriculum, resulting in protests from parents & staff. This & the ensuing court case have produced a flood of articles & press reports;
EBON MUSINGS WHY WE MUST OPPOSE CREATIONISM
The theory of evolution is, of course, their first and most prominent target, and to destroy it creationists would gleefully tear down all of modern biology and genetics, as well as most of paleontology. But they target many other branches of science as well. To accommodate Noah's Flood, virtually everything we know about geology, meteorology and hydrodynamics would have to be tossed out. To make room for a young earth, quantum mechanics and other branches of atomic physics would have to go. To allow a young universe, astronomy and cosmology would be obliterated.”
The Imminent Demise of Evolution: The Longest Running Falsehood in Creationism
In recent reading of Dembski and other ID proponents I saw them make a claim which has been made for over 40 years. This claim is one that the young-earthers have been making. The claim is that evolution (or major supporting concepts for it) is increasingly being abandoned by scientists, or is about to fall. This claim has many forms and has been made for over 162 years. This is a compilation of the claims over time.
Right-Wing Zealots Attack Science
More than 70 years after the Scopes "Monkey Trial," the scientific theory of evolution is still too hot for some American schools to handle.
