So we have a Headmaster who opposes evolution; a Head of Science who urges opposition to evolution; a Vice Principal who thinks that evolution has been convincingly opposed; and a Maths teacher who, again, urges opposing the theory and teaching creationism at the same time. - cloudsoup
The following is a transcript of a section of Rod Liddle’s recent C4 program, The New Fundamentalists (C4 – 6 Mar 06). Here he interviews 2 teachers, 2 former pupils of Emmanuel College & Nigel McQuoid. More
Creationist ‘lies’ Under Attack May 2005
One of Britain’s best-known scientists has accused a school at the centre of the controversy over the teaching of creationism of lying to its pupils.
Genetics professor Steve Jones [Biology] said it was “simply false” of Emmanuel college in Gateshead to tell children there was an active debate in science over Darwin’s basic ideas. - More
The Teaching of Music :A Biblical Perspective (From September 2002)
"As Christians, we believe that God brought each of the school children into our lives and our care. It is our duty to try and encourage our students towards being responsive disciples, just as it is to instruct and enthuse them in our specialized subject area. We may only have a short time to influence them with biblical love, understanding and discipline, as well as to educate them in the curriculum."
Also:
"Music intertwines with Christianity so there are certainly opportunities to question secular culture."

What the Christian Institute really believes
This page contains the text of a lecture delivered by Steven Layfield, the Head of Science at Emmanuel College in Gateshead. The original was taken down by the Christian Institute after its existence was publicised in The Daily Telegraph by Richard Dawkins...
It's worth noting for the moment that it is not just an attack on evolution, but on cosmology, geology, physics, chemistry, and history. I've spent much of my professional life defending religion but I am simply outraged that any government should be using my money to subsidise this man in a teaching post. That it should be a supposedly Labour or progressive government doing so is about the only funny element of the whole story. More
Top school's creationists preach value of biblical story over evolution (9 March 02)
“Fundamentalist Christians who do not believe in evolution have taken control of a state-funded secondary school in England. In a development which will astonish many British parents, creationist teachers at the city technology college in Gateshead are undermining the scientific teaching of biology in favour of persuading pupils of the literal truth of the Bible.”
Further Quote – “The star speaker at today's conference at Emmanuel is Ken Ham, president of the Answers in Genesis international ministry, whose lectures include Evolution: The Anti-God Religion of Death.
Mr McQuoid said the school had hired itself to Answers in Genesis as a venue; the conference was not a school event. More
Comment – Well what an astounding coincidence, an organisation that constantly complains about how it is unfairly associated with extreme religious ideologies such as creationism, just happens to hire out conference facilities to a bunch of creationists!
Lets look at the type of person The Vardy Foundation were encouraging. Here is a recent article about Ken Ham:
Their Own Version of a Big Bang (11 Feb 06)
“Those who believe in creationism -- children and adults -- are being taught to challenge evolution's tenets in an in-your-face way.
WAYNE, N.J. — Evangelist Ken Ham smiled at the 2,300 elementary students packed into pews, their faces rapt. With dinosaur puppets and silly cartoons, he was training them to reject much of geology, paleontology and evolutionary biology as a sinister tangle of lies
"Boys and girls," Ham said. If a teacher so much as mentions evolution, or the Big Bang, or an era when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, "you put your hand up and you say, 'Excuse me, were you there?' Can you remember that?"
The children roared their assent. More
Do we really want our schools being run by people who are encouraging nonsense like this?
Here is an interesting YouTube video, part of which shows Ham going through this, “were you there?” routine, together with an obvious reply.
By this logic…

Ring in the sort-of new (10 Jan 06)
"the ferment in which education finds itself ... has risen slowly and terribly as the consequence of atheism which has only relatively recently been given intellectual credibility with the establishment of humanistic Darwinism as the prevailing paradigm."

Ofsted OK creationism in college (24 May 02)
Professor Richard Dawkins, today described Ofsted's decision to OK the teaching of science at a college in Gateshead, which has included creationism on the curriculum, as "good grounds for losing confidence in Ofsted". More
School attacked over evolution teaching (14 Mar 02)
Leading scientists are calling for school inspectors to re-examine a UK faith school over the way it is teaching evolution. Professor Richard Dawkins and others claim fundamentalist Christian teachers at the top school are steering children towards a purely biblical explanation of how the world was created. More
