“Of course, those that have a 'Christian foundation' will encourage teachers to critique the theories and, while doing absolutely no violence to the factual data, consider the various weaknesses in the supporting evidence.”
This is an example of the creationists, “critical thinking”, tactic; which encourages unnecessary or inordinate criticism of evolution with the sole intention of undermining a student’s acceptance of it. This is often dishonestly presented as a means of teaching students critical thinking skills, which is a bit of a joke considering the creationists who are promoting this nonsense could not critically think their way out of a wet paper bag.
As explained elsewhere, teaching creationism is not confined to teaching just the positive assertions of creationism; such as the biblical creationist assertion that God created man, or intelligent design creationist claims about an unknown designer. It is also largely concerned with presenting modern science & especially evolution in a bad light. Therefore, even if a teacher makes no reference to biblical, scientific or intelligent design creationism, it is still possible for them to teach creationism by imparting to the students, negative views about science & evolution whose characteristics are such that it is reasonable to assert that they are the views normally associated with creationism.
These include, “teach the controversy”, “critical thinking,” (mentioned above) & “only a theory”.
