Reply to Blair.


In a recent interview in the New Scientist magazine, Blair controversially downplayed the threat of creationism in our schools suggesting that he believes scientists should have better things to worry about. This arrogant & dismissive attitude is absolutely what we expect from this so called (soon to be ex), “leader” of the Labour Party – if he can causally belittle the concerns of some of the most respected academics in the country with such talk, what chance do the rest of us stand against his gross incompetence & stupidity?

Combating Creationism
As a science education specialist and researcher into the issue of creationism teaching in schools, I am extremely disturbed by Prime Minister Tony Blair's dismissive attitude on the issue of creationist teaching in UK schools (4 November, p 51). To state that action would only be necessary should creationism become "the mainstream of the education system in this country" is naïve in the extreme. Action at that point is no action at all and would be too late...
