The following is a complete record of the old Black Shadow forum. This was shut down in 2006 after being superseded by the BCSE (British Centre for Science Education) and the new BCSE forum. It contains a lot of interesting material relating to the issue of creationism within the UK up to that time.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to maintain the archive at its original address, as Yahoo delete inactive accounts and their contents.

This record documents the formation of the BCSE, from its insignificant beginnings as a small anticreationism forum with a just handful of individuals, to the point that it transformed into the BSCE campaigning group that has helped raise public awareness of the dangers of creationism within the UK's educational system.

For example, the BCSE helped expose the activities of the Australian creationist John Mackay who was touring schools in the UK giving talks on creationism, as well as helping thwart the activities of the perversely named creationist group, Truth In Science, who were peddling DVDs containing creationist material to schools across the country.

The BSCE website now contains a wealth of information on the issue of creationism within the UK's educational system as well as a comprehensive record of the UK's creationists and creationist organisations. An associated forum for the discussion of creationism related subjects can be found here

Black Shadow may seem a strange name for an anticreationism forum, however, the forum was originally set up to supplement the old Black Shadow website (Tagline - The Black Shadow of Creationism), before it was superseded by this one. The name, in my mind, encapsulates the very essence of creationism, i.e. that it is a fundamentalist black shadow across the face of the human race. If the term sounds sinister that is simply because the creationist movement is itself sinister.

If you are going to advertise a product (or a service), one of the common rules of thumb is to focus on the benefits of that product rather than the product itself.

For example a security system installation company will call itself, Safe & Sound and its literature will refer to, peace of mind. Likewise a double glazing company will call itself, Warm Glow Ltd, etc. Conversely, if you wish to highlight the detrimental aspects of something, then concentrate on the negative effects, rather than the hazard itself.

This might seem a little underhand, but remember the creationists are hardly playing by the Queensberry rules. Slowly, but surely, they are ingratiating themselves into positions of power and influence within our educational and political systems. They are doing this on the back of misleading statements that cunningly conceal their true beliefs and goals. Goals that seem more motivated by religious zeal and their aversion to modern, secular society, rather than any claim to improving educational opportunities.
